Best Natural Facial Cleansing: The Oil Cleansing Method

I’ve finally found “my” facial cleanser! The oil cleansing method is simple, natural, and has such wonderful results!
As I’ve mentioned several times on this blog, I tolerate almost no cosmetics. That means: makeup of any kind, creams, lotions, shower gels, shampoos, treatments, conditioners, etc., trigger allergic reactions. It doesn’t matter whether they are conventional or natural cosmetics. 🙁
A few years ago, an acquaintance mentioned that she only uses pure oils from Primavera for her entire body care. I liked the idea immediately. As a result, I tried jojoba oil and other oils as a “face cream”. That was already quite good and of course much better than no facial care at all.
Some time ago, I happened to read about the oil cleansing method and that immediately appealed to me as well. Even though it sounds strange at first: using oil to cleanse your face?! But YES, not only does it work, but it leaves your skin looking so beautiful and feeling so soft! I am absolutely thrilled! And it is completely natural without any chemical additives!
Create your own oil blend:
For oily and combination skin, the following are suitable: jojoba oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, hemp oil, thistle oil.
For dry skin, the following are suitable: avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, shea butter, wheat germ oil, evening primrose oil, pumpkin seed oil, linseed oil.
You choose ONE of these oils as the main oil for your blend, depending on your skin type. I use jojoba oil, for example. To this, you add castor oil. Please never use castor oil on its down, as it is very drying. As a third component, you now add a portion of one of these high-quality oils that have strong anti-aging properties.
Anti-aging oils: rosehip oil, rose oil, sea buckthorn oil, cacay oil, prickly pear seed oil, marula oil, frankincense oil.
For your oil blend, use 50 to 70% of your main oil, 10 to 30% castor oil, and 10 to 20% of an anti-aging oil. Do not use more than 3 oils and mix only a small amount (approx. 20ml). Test this blend for at least 3 weeks.
Ideally, all oils should be organic and cold-pressed. 😉
Now, how to proceed with the oil cleansing method:
Take a sufficient amount of your oil blend and massage the oil into your dry facial skin. It doesn’t matter if you use too much oil. Massage for at least 1 minute! It is wonderfully relaxing. Then take a small towel, wet it with very warm water, and place it on your face. The steam opens the pores and lets everything escape that clogs them. Leave the towel on your face until it has cooled down and repeat the warm towel process once more. Then thoroughly wipe all remaining oil from your face with the towel. Be very gentle around the eye area. Finally, if your skin feels a little dry, you can apply a little pure anti-aging oil to your face again (not your oil blend).
Yes, and that’s it! The oil cleansing method is that simple!
Tips for oil cleansing:
- Really only use 3 oils and test for at least 3 weeks whether the blend is good for your face. Exception: stop sooner if your skin reacts very negatively, as you have probably chosen the wrong main oil, though it could potentially be one of the other two oils.
- If you have dry skin, do not use more than 10-15% castor oil.
- The oil cleansing method is suitable for every skin type. If you don’t get good results, it’s due to the oil selection or the respective amount/mixing ratio.
- OCM is also wonderful for acne and in many cases has led to it healing within a very short time.
- Once you have found a well-tolerated blend for yourself, you can also experiment with adding an essential oil. You don’t necessarily have to put the essential oil directly into your blend; you can simply add a drop of it to the oil blend in your hand before massaging it into your face.
- You can also use OCM great in the evening to remove makeup, if you wear any.
- You can omit any other facial toners/cleansing products.
In case you are interested in what my blend looks like:
60% jojoba oil, 20% castor oil, and 20% sea buckthorn oil. Every now and then I add a drop of rosemary oil, tea tree oil, or lemon oil. After oil cleansing, I apply a little rosehip oil to my face.
Have fun with the oil cleansing method! My skin has truly never been so beautiful!
Update after 4 months:
I am still totally thrilled with the oil cleansing method! My skin is really so soft and beautiful and looks so healthy! Be sure to try it out!
